Lee Seung Gi (Hangul: 이승기, Hanja: 李昇基), born 13 January 1987, is a South Korean singer, actor and MC. Lee is well known as a member of the first season of weekend variety show 1 Night 2 Days from November 2007 to February 2012, and the MC of talk show Strong Heart from October 2009 to April 2012.
Scouted by singer Lee Sun Hee, Lee Seung Gi trained for 2 years before debuting on 5 June 2004 at the age of 17. Because You’re My Girl, his debut song from his first album The Dream Of A Moth, was a popular ballad which created a “liking older women” syndrome in South Korea. With this song, he won the “Best Newcomer” award in various music awards ceremonies in 2004 such as the M.net KM Music Festival and Seoul Music Awards. In 2007, he also won the “Best Male Solo Artist” award in the M.net KM Music Festival with his song White Lie from his third album Story Of Separation.
Lee released a digital single Will You Marry Me in 2009, which became a big hit in South Korea although there was no official promotion. With this single, he received the “Digital Single Bonsang” award in the 24th Golden Disk Awards. In 2010, he recorded a duet version of his 2007 song Smile Boy with South Korean figure skater Kim Yuna, and the song was the official 2010 FIFA World Cup commercial song in South Korea. He also received the “Digital Single Bonsang” award for the second consecutive time in the 25th Golden Disk Awards with his song Love Taught Me To Drink even though it was not promoted actively.
In 2005, Lee Seung Gi guest-starred in MBC’s sitcom Nonstop 5. He then officially debuted as an actor in KBS’s 2006 weekend drama The Infamous Chil Sisters. In 2008, he was offered the lead role in MBC’s historical drama The Return of Iljimae, but was forced to turn down the offer due to his tight schedule. He was cast as the main male character in SBS’s weekend drama Brilliant Legacy in 2009, starring with Korean actresses Han Hyo Joo and Moon Chae Won. The drama maintained its top spot in viewer ratings for ten consecutive weeks and ended on 26 July 2009 with its 28th episode attaining a high viewer rating of 47.1%. The huge success boosted Lee’s popularity as an actor both locally and internationally. With this drama, he received the “Excellence in Acting” award, the “Top 10 Stars” award and the “Best Couple” award with Han Hyo Joo in the 2009 SBS Drama Awards. His performance in 2010 SBS’s Wednesday-Thursday drama My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox similarly earned him his second “Excellence in Acting” award, “Top 10 Stars” award and “Best Couple” award with his co-star Shin Min Ah in the SBS Drama Awards. In 2012, Lee starred in MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama The King 2 Hearts alongside actress Ha Ji Won. In October 2012, Lee’s agency announced that he will star in a fantasy historical drama tentatively titled The Gu Family Book (구가의 서), which is slated for an early 2013 broadcast.
Lee Seung Gi was a permanent member of the first season of 1 Night 2 Days, a segment of KBS’s weekend variety show Happy Sunday, from November 2007 to February 2012. In 2008, he received the “Best Popularity” award in the KBS Entertainment Awards for his high popularity in 1 Night 2 Days. His efforts and contributions in making 1 Night 2 Days one of the most loved and long-lasting variety shows in South Korea earned him the “Top Excellence MC” award in the 2010 KBS Entertainment Awards and the “Daesang” award with the other members of the first season in the 2011 KBS Entertainment Awards.
Lee took up another MC role in SBS’s Tuesday night talk show Strong Heart in October 2009, co-hosting with Kang Ho Dong, who is one of the top MCs in South Korea. Although it was a relatively new variety show on SBS, Strong Heart was recognized as the “Best Program” at the 2009 SBS Entertainment Awards and Lee was awarded the “Netizens’ Popularity” award after receiving the most number of votes in the online poll. After the departure of Kang Ho Dong from the show in September 2011, Lee took on sole MC responsibility and his performance earned positive comments from the viewers. Lee was recognized for his talent as an MC and received the “Top Excellence MC” award for two consecutive years in the 2010 and 2011 SBS Entertainment Awards. In March 2012, Lee announced his departure from Strong Heart in order to focus on his singing career. He recorded his last episode on 15 March, which was broadcast on 3 April.
Being a popular and versatile entertainer with a clean and positive image, Lee Seung Gi is one of the most likable CF models in South Korea. Lee currently endorses a wide variety of products and services, from banking services (KB Group) and sports products (Kolon Sport) to clothing (Heritory), food (Pizza Hut) and household electronics (Samsung Zipel refrigerators). He has also been ranked number one in the monthly CF Model Preference Ranking survey done by Korea Advertisers Association numerous times in recent years.
On 30 October 2012, the National Election Commission of South Korea announced that it has appointed Lee Seung Gi as the Honorary Online Ambassador of the nation’s campaign for a fair and clean presidential election.

Anyway, I’ve been a kdrama fan for many years. I’d heard about Famous Princesses before, but its length was just too daunting for me. I did download the files to send to my mom (she’s a big kdrama fan as well ^^), but never watched it myself. I’d also heard about X-Man and Love Letter before, but I wasn’t really into Korean variety shows at the time, so I never watched them either. AND I was never into Kpop because I preferred to listen to songs that I could actually understand. So I never had a chance to “discover” SeungGi until last year.
My passion for kdrama was kind of dying down at the time, since there hadn’t been any dramas to my liking in the last couple of years. Even BOF did not impress me at all. But I was getting really bored at the end of July, so I looked for something to watch. I read some very nice reviews on BL, and since I’m a total sucker for Cinderella stories, I decided to give it a try. At first, I did question why they cast a 22-year-old singer for the male lead. And when I started watching it, it was definitely not love at first sight. ^^ I remember thinking, “He’s not the best looking either. So why did they cast him?” The drama was kind of slow in the beginning and I really didn’t like Hwan, but I continued watching, mostly because I wanted to see him suffer. (I know, it’s very sadistic of me. ^^) As I continued on, there were two scenes that stood out and won me over. The first one was Hwan singing ‘Cry Out’ at karaoke. I thought, “Well, I guess he’s a pretty good singer.” The next one was Hwan cleaning the tables at the restaurant by himself but started hallucinating EunSung telling him to smile to the customers, so he smiled. OMG, that smile! I think my heart just totally melted at that moment. ^^
After I watched BL countless times, I decided to google SeungGi, just out of curiosity. But the more I found out about him, the more impressed I became. I then found myself listening to all his songs and watching all his variety shows. Once I started watching 1n2d, that was basically the point of no return for me. ^^
(OMG, I just realized how much I’ve been rambling on. So I’m going to stop myself here before this turns into a novel about my fandom. LOL)

Hello everyone,
I am a new fan if you count last few months and I hope I can also be part of this wonderful blog. I was wondering how to read old posts but couldn’t figure it out and accidentally stumble across a reply from Tryp to search the archives, silly me, that didn’t cross my mind.
I was reading that most you seem to start liking him after watching him awhile but for me it was completely opposite. A friend of mine is a fan of 1N2D, I went to her house and she showed me an episode saying it was really funny, it was my first time watching it so I couldn’t understand what was going on, but when she asked me if I liked it or not and my only reply was that the guy is cute (: K-dramas were not new to me I really liked you’re beautiful and started liking the main lead but after I read more about him my liking faded. So I knew about MGIAG but didn’t like the main picture so didn’t watch it (I can be a little vain like that).
But after coming home he kinda stuck in my mind, not the show mind you just him. So I searched about him and found out he was in MGIAG and finally watched the show and as they say rest is history. I watched all his show and was really disappointed about strong heart not being subbed completely (I actually want to buy the DVDs but don’t know from where).
I am a kind of person who never likes any type of entertainers for long because I tend to search them up and don’t like what I read about them so couldn’t understand why people liked a celebrity so much. When I started liking him I imagined myself losing interest in a while but now I am surprised at myself liking him more everyday and now I consciously don’t want to stop and get miffed if I come across a negative comment or if someone underestimates him especially his fans. I do wonders if I am going crazy because now he’s not doing any show and I miss him so weird.
I am not good with words but I wanted to write about my feelings and thank Tryp for this blog through which we all can get updates about him especially fans like me who live far away.
I apologize for the long post.
I totally understand how you feel. I think a lot of people agree that SeungGi is like a black hole (another translation for heodang); once you fall in, you cannot escape.

He is indeed a black hole one that i don’t mind getting suck in and hopefully more people, nobody seem to understand my obsession so i am thankful to this blog and yours too (if i am not mistaken you are the same Ann right hopefully i am not wrong). I am one of those silent readers of both yours and tryp’s but now I’ll try to write comments as often as I can I am from Canada so its hard to find someone liking LSG.

Hi Alex, i also understand how you fell because that is also how i feel. Seunggi is the first celebrity whom i like the most and the longest. Usually, my crush to celebrity lasted only 1-3month. Because of seunggi, i m doing lots of thing which i never think i will do before such as fly in to singapore just for his fan meeting and learning korean language just so i can go to his concert in seoul, etc, etc. I also don’t t have any friend to fangirl Seunggi and if i told my friend about him, they don’t understand why i like him so much. But thanks to tryp’s bog, i find so many people here who have crush on seunggi just like me. I m usually a silent reader but now i try to be more expressive and make comment with my limited english. Seunggi is really awesome and i like him more n more each day. Sometimes i also think i am going crazy because missing him so much, my solution is to rewatch his old dramas, music videos, 1n2d, etc. Of course, me lurking at tryp’s blog is also one of the best solution. I really really appreciate all the fans for translating his videos, interviews etc but i am trying to learn Korean too (hopefully i can detach myself from LSG long enough actually learn something), are you going to Singapore that’s so cool if i knew about it earlier i could have gone too but now i cant get away from work and of course the language barrier. Anyway i agree lurking here is the best.

hi tryp96,first i want to greet you to a very nice day and also i want to thank you for all of this about Lee Seung Gi…actually just like other already told about their story of being his fan….I dont really like LSG the first time i saw him in XMAN ,july 17,2004 episode…at that time i thought he is just a teenager that trying to have attention from everyone,,,,and i never watch FAMOUS PRINCESS,,just about two years ago im began watching korean drama at other variety shows that makes me laugh,,,and honestly because Taiwan drama takes so many years before it end up….2010 i tried to watch My Girlfriend is a Guhimo,but after the 2nd episode i stop watching because i dont believe in fantasy,,lol,,,,,i also watched one episode of 1n2d but really dont like the show so i stopped watching it too…but at the beginning of the year 2012 everythings turns different….It was the fourth day of Chinese New Year,,and the boredom in me begin to starts….i start searching for some korean variety show that would really makes me laugh even just im infront of a computer monitor….i start downloaded YOUKU,,,and i actually dont know how i ended up watching one episode of 1n2d with some contract work from ASIA,,,and honestly that episode really made me cry and very touch….so i tried to search for the first episode of 1n2d 2007,,,,but while im watching i felt that there’s is something missing…the atmosphere that i saw with the Asian contract workers….and then i found why it is so strange…because LSG is still not in the first episode,,,so i search again which episode he joins 1n2d,,,its November 11,2007 (episode 15),,,after i watched it i start to like LSG…i told myself that so this is the teenager that i saw in X-MAN….and the story began,,,,i start looking that concern about LSG until,,,im a FILIPINA,,,now a taiwan citizen,,,but i never liked any celebrities like the way i feel for LSG…he is really good to be true….i watched all the episode of 1n2d till the last episode of LSG…and i watched all of this for so many times,,,and now im all ON with LSG ….i really admire him not because he is so popular but i saw whats the real LSG just by watching him in 1n2d,,how he eats,how he brush his teeth,how he sleep and wake up…thats the real Lee Seung Gi,,,thats why so many mothers wants their kids grow up like LSG ! thank you tyrp96 for all your efforts about him,,,

Thank you for the prompt reply , actually i have checked the schedule page before posting my question , and have tried to google the concert with ” lee seung ki + concert + 2012 ” and ” olympic gymnastics stadium + schedule ” ,but the poor me could find nothing , I want badly to see him in concert , should it be in Seoul , in Tokyo or somewhere else , but first thing first is i have to secure a tic then a flight , that s why i am asking here becos i think here may be a better place to get clues

i feel the same feeling with your story about being Seunggi’s fan. i don’t really know about korean singer, i just watch the drama with nothing special. but one day my friend who love Suju give me a variety show that Suju is the guest star and it’s Strong heart ep 93 seunggi wear strawberry blouse. at first i like Kyu Suju because his voice is great. but when i saw it, i just can’t stop thinking.. “who is him?” i did falling into his smile.. after that i watched MGIG .. then, OMO… this guy! i decide to search any information about him… i thought Dae woong is not handsome… but i do really really love when he smile. make my heart feel easy, and he just came to our country Indonesia. and hope he will come again with his new mini album… hehe..

Thank you so so so so so so much for creating this blog. It was similar to me too, but I start noticing him from MGIG not BL. My first reaction to the drama was why they choose this guy, he is not even good looking. Then later on his smile is melt me away. After I finished the show, I googled him up. He is really inspirational, so perfect in every aspect. Anyways, thanks for all the hard work .

I first saw LSG with PSH in “will you marry me”. Loved the song and the whole dance thing. But, really got interested in him with the Japan debut this year when he appeared with her in “alone in love”. Those fourteen minutes or so of the musical video made me search for his other songs on you tube. I became a fan of LSG the singer. Watched BL and K2H. Liked him even more.
I discovered this comprehensive blog when I finally decided to know more than what was in the Wikipedia after Okinawa. I can consider myself a proper airen because of what I know of him now. Just one question……..can I be really considered to be an airen if PSH still has that special place in my heart that I feel no one can take. You see it was due to watching her, listening to her songs and liking what I got to know about her that I could go through that period when I had to stay totally in bed for months. That’s when my love for Korea ( other asian countries too) and its culture started and also my interest in LSG. Now, I too like many here visit your blog daily to find the latest news about him. …….even if its for few minutes. So, thanks for all that you have to do to maintain this blog. l like him very much more than other artist that i had liked before. He was cute and so nature look like a brother that every one should take care and love him , protect him. When i felt sad or moodly i will take a look at his picture , that just like one sunshine that brighten my whole heart and clear up all the matters that burden me.
