This is a very long and detailed fan account written by a Japanese fan, kiracrystal. Ay has very kindly, as always, volunteered to translate it so that the English-speaking fans could also enjoy it. 😀
The fan meeting was scheduled to begin at 18.30. 10 minutes before the opening, the MC Ms Yumi came on stage and told everyone that they had planned a ‘surprise’ for Seung Gi. After that, there was an announcement in Korean. I was a bit startled. For a moment, I wondered, “Am I in Korea?” and then I realised that it was a Korean version of what the MC had just said. Of course, there were many fans from Korea too and if they did not understand what the plan was, then the ‘surprise’ would not materialise.
At 18.40, the fan meeting officially started. Seung Gi radiantly appeared, wearing a navy blue jacket, a white top and black pants. A light, cheerful background music came on. Wait…he was singing the Japanese version of Time for Love! Honestly, I did not expect to hear the Japanese version, so I was a bit stunned when I should be all excited.
When it got to the part of the dialogue in the song, Seung Gi greeted everyone in Japanese, “Hi, everyone, I am Lee Seung Gi. How have you been all these days? I miss you all very much.” And when the song ended, Seung Gi formally greeted everyone again, ” It has been a while since I stood on the stage. Don’t know if I have done well. But compared to last time at Budokan, everyone seems to have become prettier.”
MC: Really?
Seung Gi took a look around the audience: My eyesight isn’t that great. I can’t see very clearly..(chuckled) (Hey, what kind of response is that?)
After this, Seung Gi spoke mostly in Korean interspersed with some Japanese.
SG: I arrived in Japan yesterday. I went to see the cherry blossoms and took pictures under the cherry blossom trees. Recently, I have been busy filming Gu Family Secrets. This is an action drama with comic-like fighting scenes.
MC: Seung Gi, are you wearing socks today?
SG: The trousers that I am wearing are a bit short. So I was wondering what to do. And then I thought it might be sexier to show my ankles. So I came without socks.
(Haha, ‘sexy ankles’? Seung Gi is again making a fuss on small issues.)
Then the conversation went on to TK2H
SG: To me, this drama was full of challenges. It was better received in Japan than it was in Korea. I am happy to see that you like the drama. This drama not only has my respected Director Lee Jae Kyu but also renowned actors like Ha Jiwon and Lee Soon Jae, so I wanted to be a part of it no matter what, regardless of what the script or what the role I play is.
After this speech, they showed a clip of ‘the King’ in TK2H. After the clip, JaeHa’s face on the screen immediately became the cute and lovable Seung Gi again. I could not believe that JaeHa and the Seung Gi before me was the same person. The aura they gave was completely different.
SG: Just now, I was sweating when I watched the clip. During the shooting, I thought I acted really well. But now, looking back, I felt that my acting is still immature, But through this drama, I learnt to loosen up as much as possible when I am acting. At that time, the director kept telling me to speak a bit more softly. Maybe, he was trying to tell me not to be too uptight in my acting. Before that, I had thought that I could express the emotions better if I spoke louder. (grimace).
MC: I heard that you almost cried the first time you met all the actors. Was that true?
SG: In general, in Korea, people seldom arrived on time. But on that day, all the actors arrived before the specified time. Although I was not late, I was the last one to show up. I was so nervous that I almost cried.
MC: During the filming, did the director compliment you?
SG: At the beginning, there were no compliments at all. I could only tell whether or not I did a good job by the way the director said ‘cut’. But in the latter part of the drama, like in Episode 19 when Eun Shi Kyung died, we had to finish shooting before the sun went down. I only had 10 minutes to do that scene. So I was really focused and the director praised me after that.
The next clip showed the frolicking JaeHa, including the scene in the bathtub in episode 5.
Following the clip,
SG: I think you all know that I do not like to bare my chest. Before that, no one could convince me to do so. But Director Lee Jae Kyu talked me into it and I bravely took off my clothes in episode 5.
Come to think of it, in episode 4, he swims in a wet suit. Could it be that the director had asked Seung Gi to appear in swimming trunks but Seung Gi rejected the idea?
SG continued: Normally, people do some body-building before they show their chest but I really did not have time for it. I finally compromised. I would only show my chest but definitely not my abdomen.
Up until then, Seung Gi was speaking Korean the entire time but after the interpreter translated this part, Seung Gi emphasised again in Japanese, ‘No, not the abdomen. Absolutely not!’ How cute!
SG: In fact, there were two directors for this drama. While shooting the bathtub scene, the other director, whom I had never met before showed up. And she was a woman! It was really embarrassing to meet someone for the first time when I did not have clothes on.
I guess the lady director showed up because she was curious to see Seung Gi’s mysterious**!
SG: In the last scene, JaeHa said “I love you” to HangAh. This line was not in the script but I suggested putting it in because I felt that JaeHa would say something like that to HangAh. The director agreed. Adding this line softened the feeling that the drama was a political drama and also allowed the love of JaeHa and HangAh to live on.
MC: How would Lee Seung Gi propose?
SG: When I was young, I was very confident of my proposal and I wanted to give her a deep impression. But I have been thinking too much about it and I also saw many unique ways of proposing in dramas. Gradually, I am not so sure what I should do and feel a bit frustrated. To me, proposing will not happen for a long time…and I don’t think people would want me to talk about these things here. (laugh)
MC: But that’s because they don’t think that they are the leading lady in this script. Why don’t you practise your proposal with them now?
Seung Gi was getting shy and started to murmured, “Really, I haven’t thought about that…. ” Finally, blushing, he said shyly, ” I will make you happier than anyone you know.”
And then, the conversation went on to Lee Seung Gi as a singer. They showed the record-breaking achievements of the ‘Forest’ 5.5 mini album in Korea on the screen.
SG: Eptione Project is a very active independent artist. By chance, I heard his songs. You may not instantly become addicted to his music. But it grows on you and that was the type of music I wanted to make at that time and the idea of collaboration was developed. I wanted to make music that was different from my past works, something sensual, something for women.
MC: What about your self-composed song “Words That Say I Love You’?
SG: I did not plan to write my own songs. The melody just spontaneously came up and then ideas started to flow. In Korea, I really like the composer Kim Dong Ryul. I tried to invite him to write a song for me but failed. So I thought, how would Kim Dong Ryul write a song? How would the song feel? And that’s how “Words that Say I Love You” was written.
Actually, we had all heard all the above comments concerning his drama and his music before but still, it was nice hearing them directly from Seung Gi himself. They also announced the good news that he will have a concert at the Tokyo International Conference Centre on October 7, 2013.
SG: Last year’s concert at Budokan gave me a very deep impression. It was held almost immediately after the drama concluded and there was not much time for preparation. I was very regretful about it. This time, I will be well-prepared and present you with the best stage ever.

Dear AY,
Thank you so much for the hard work. Love the answers especially those related to TK2H. He never stops improving himself does he? The performance in TK2H is so unforgettable but he’s still trying to ‘find faults’ with it. However, I will have to learn to let Jae Ha go (for a little while) in order to welcome Kang Chi into my life. Don’t worry, my king, I will love you forever!
What I like about him is that he always takes what he does seriously, down to the finest detail–with or without socks, being the last one to arrive (and not being late), not properly dressed when meeting someone for the first time……
many many thanks to nanako for the translation TK2H is a very special drama for me because it was in this drama that I become a fan of SeungGi. I watched it for the th time but still can’t get enough of Lee Jae Ha.

A big thanks to kiracrystal for the fan account, Ay for the translation n Tryp for posting it! I really wanted to know what he said for the more than an hour talk! Now thanks to u ladies, I know something!!! For us fans who didn’t get a chance to go, even for those who went, but don’t understand either Japanese or Korean, this is certainly a great consolation. Thanks again!,
I’m always so surprise when I hear confirmation on how unreceptive TK2H was in Korea compared to his other dramas. Personally I think that’s his best drama so far and it helped me open my eyes to see other countries point of view when it came to meddling from the US.
It’s my favorite drama of his.
Love this! Thanks to everyone for their hard work bringing it to us! TK2H was the first thing I saw Lee Seung Gi in (Yes, I’m new to k-drama) but thought he was awesome in it. It was after TK2H that I discovered Brilliant Legacy, MGIAG, 1N2D and his music. It’s going on a year now and the obsession just keeps growing. Hope he will someday he will return to the US and perform on the West Coast!
Dear Tryp,
Just sent you an email.
