It was a solid performance considering none of the leads made an appearance yet. Also I heard word of mouth favors Gu Family Book.

That’s a good start tbh! We’ll see how today goes. GFB didn’t have its actual lead stars in the drama yet and didn’t have a good lead in from last week. This will be a tight race I’m sure.

  8. Gen Wong says:

It’s too early to say who’ll be the winner. I’m happy enough that the drama started beautifully, everything was great! Here’s hoping that it’s a sign that this is gonna be one awesome drama until the end. Once again, Seunggi made us love him even more. As expected, Seunggi chose a wonderful project as a gift for us fans.
It would be so much better of course if the ratings will show that. Daebak wishes for this drama that has already won our hearts…fighting!

sorry! may I know what is the meaning of AGB and TNS??sorry! I really didnt know this for a long time actually.. what is the difference between these category?

    • AY says:

AGB and TNS are two research companies. For many years, AGB Neilsen’s ratings have been used in many countries as a yardstick for a TV program’s popularity. I am not sure of TNS’s position worldwide.

      • lily23 says:

ohh..thank you for the info!! thus that’s mean AGB is the main one to know the popularity for a drama?sorry for asking again

        • foulou says:

Both use the same sample size, and the differences (most likely) lie in their margins of error. AGB Nielsen has been around for much longer and is the bigger company, so AGB’s data has been standard not just in Korea but also worldwide.

Random sampling is still the best way to collect and manage data in a cost-efficient way, but there are other things that go beyond TV ratings in terms of popularity. For example, cultural lingo. Some dramas have dialogues, characters, or costumes that might get talked about more or would have more exposure through word-of-mouth despite the ratings not being a total juggernaut. Then again, more often than not, whatever show the sample size (I think it’s 2000+ households in Korea) watches is still indicative of the shows’ popularity with probably 1-3% margin of error. You won’t really find a drama that is being watched by half of the Korean population and would only get 10% ratings in either AGB or TNS. With this kind of close ratings (1-2% difference) there’s really no clear indication that one drama is winning over the other.
