of course.you’re one of the best things ever in this world.the person makes the name.so that your name’s awesome as it is already.why needing any titles
Lee Seung Gi, SARANG HEYEO!!!
Yes, LEE SEUNGGI is certainly better than any title!!!! In fact, it’s THE best title!
Knowing the name Lee Seung Gi was one of the best things that happened to me…that was 5 years ago and still counting..that names still shine brightly to US Airens forever!!! No doubt about it..
I live in Indiana, a couple weeks ago the young girl doing my pedicure and I started talking ALL about Seung Gi, so much fun to be able to find other US fans to chat with about him and his dramas and music…
you’re from Indiana? i’m in Indiana too! let’s spread the love for seung gi everywhere! 🙂
where are you
purdue university, i’m international student.
lol i am in South Bend home of Notre Dame Univ, but not a fan
nice to meet you:) let’s talk more about seung gi if we have a chance 🙂
I just back on to check tryp’s blog now..Sorry i guess my post made a big misunderstanding for you guys..I type the *us * in capital letter referring to us Airens but i don’t meant to say that I was from US..as in U.S.A.. sorry guys for the trouble.. no wonder someone gives a thumbs down to my post..
ha ha its ok, and thats not why thumbs down I am sure…. do not worry
@scbound thanks -:)
Ignore the trolls who give you a thumbs down. They do that because they have nothing better to do with their time. If I were to let every thumbs down affect me, I would be dead by now. You’re a valuable member of this forum, so don’t let anyone make you feel bad! 🙂
it’s okay. US as in USA or US as in Airens, Airens just know that US love LSG though 😀
and yeap, just ignore the thumbs down 🙂
thanks Airen hearties…for all the kindness…i feel it even just by reading all your comments..
Is there anyone from India……
I live in Canada but am originally from India if that counts. 🙂
Yeah….. Nice to meet you…… 🙂
Of course we do, too!
Seung gi ah!
Absolutely! His name is music to my ears. I originally come from the USA, New Jersey but I didn’t know him then. I feel so lucky to have discovered him after coming to Korea 6 years ago, I’m reluctant to come back to the States! There isn’t anyone here who doesn’t know or like him, this includes my students ranging in age from 6th grade to high school as well as adults and the elderly alike.
Here in India too………. near me, nobody knows him……… But thanks to the site I am able to get touch with the news of Lee Seung gi……… Thankyou 🙂
GFB got good ratings, but SG said in an interview that he hoped it could be in the can as soon as possible, bkz it’s very tiring shooting process. He seldom complains or says any grievance, so why?? TKTH seems in different situation, why?? maybe the people
heard that too many ‘retakes ‘ & ‘NG s’ with…….
too many ‘trolls’……
too many thumbs down…..
too many people want to use him……
too many opportunists….
too many media play by…..made him more more tired.
arrggh….when I starting with too many, I became ‘mad’…
while in TK2H, too many loves, and too many fans….made him forgot about being tired.
Seung Gi yaaa…..
let’s us give you with many many hugs……
let’s look at what he did for that drama, and what does he get now? Is MBC kidding him? MBC is getting beyond a joke!
What r you talking about???………… I didn’t get to know………. What did MBC do??? Can u please explain………
Hi, please read this: “This must be the joke of the year. LSG is not nominated for best actor for SDA, and Sz is nominated for best actress?MBC, are you on drugs?”
Y he is not nominated???? He was one of the best in the drama……. I have only watched a handful of dramas in the internet as I don’t have the info about many other dramas………. So I don’t know who is the best one but I can clearly say that Lee Seung gi was really good in all his dramas including ‘Gu Family Book’ which is what I watched last……… Well, I do admit Suzy was good too but ignoring Lee Seung gi’s efforts for the drama is simply ridiculous…….. MBC, seriously I didn’t get your point…….
SG, you don’t need a title. Yr name Lee Seung Gi is already heavy enough. The best all-around entertainer, and recently added ‘Trustworthy Actor’, etc. 😛
couldn’t agree more
brilliant name from parents
seung gi could mean as victory machine, couldnt it?
李胜基 is SG’s chinese characters. (Lee Seung Gi)
胜(Seung) means victory, success, victorious, able to bear, get the better of, and be superior, etc.
基(Ji) means base, foundation, radical, basic etc.( Ji in this case is not machine although same pronounciation).
I agree that his parents gave him such a meaningful name. You can interpret it yourself. 😛
Thanks dramaaddict for posting this. I was about to post the same thing and you and I were on the same wavelength! 🙂 Seung Gi means always victorious so I think it’s quite fitting for him. His parents and sister must be so proud!
Dear jerseygirl0420
Have you forgotten “great minds think alike”? I feel that I have to clarify this for SG and SG’s ardent fans. Do you interpret SG’s name in this way in Korean? Thks to you, we have so many translations of various articles abt SG these days.
Veo que escribes español también. Pero, ¿cuántos idiomas sabes, además de coreano, español, Inglés y Chino. 😛
Hi dramaadict,
Claro que no! 🙂 No, I interpret his name strictly using the Chinese characters that his parents gave to him at birth. Although every Korean has their Korean name, like SG’s would be 이승기, it is impossible to tell exactly what type of Seung and Gi his name implies just by looking at his Hangul name. Therefore, every Korean also has their name in Chinese characters, including their first and last name. In SG’s case, Lee has only one Chinese character, so we cannot tell which clan he comes from. His last name Lee is represented by the Chinese character 李. All Lee’s have this same Chinese character but they come from different clans. For example, my grandmother is a Lee but she comes from the Cheonju clan while her mother who was also a Lee, came from the Hansan clan. Admiral Lee Soon Shin came from the Deoksu Lee clan which is known to be the “highest ranking” or most noble clan out of the yangban Lees. Seung in Lee Seung Gi’s case means victory in hanja, or Chinese characters, and Gi means foundation, so most Koreans have interpreted his name as “always victorious”. A very fitting name indeed.
In Suzy Bae’s case, her name in Hangul is 배수지, which has the Chinese meaning of 裴秀智. 裴 refers to her last name and there are two different clans of Baes, although some argue that they are very similar enough to be considered as one. 秀(Soo in Korean, in Xiù Chinese) means outstanding and 智 (Ji in Korean, Zhì in Chinese ) means wise. All Koreans have a working knowledge of Chinese characters because it is also used in printed materials such as newspapers, articles, and books to clarify Korean meanings. They also know how to write their names in Chinese and this was one of the tests my students gave me on my first day teaching. I guess they wanted to see how “Korean” or how “American” I was. LOL. Thank God my parents taught me, because my students were unexpectedly shocked and impressed. Needless to say, they accepted me as “being cool enough” to teach them and gave me no problems from that moment on. LOL.
As to how many languages I speak, my best friend is Taiwanese and we’ve been friends since 1st grade, so it’s been almost 30 years. I’ve picked up some Cantonese as well from another close friend of mine during my school days. Estudié español por cincuenta años durante la escuela secundaria hasta el fin del colégio. Puedo hablar coreano, español, Inglés, japonés, y un poco de Chino. Me gústa estudiando idiomas tanto. (I studied Spanish for fifteen years during middle school through college. I can speak Korean, Spanish, English, Japanese, and a little bit of Chinese. I really like learning languages.) I saw that you speak Italian as well. How many languages do you speak? It is a pleasure meeting you. I really enjoy reading your meaningful comments on this site.
Haters will always be haters. Tsk tsk tsk…
jerseygirl0420
Let’s talk in our emails. If not more thumbs down and unfair to tryp.
tonteria21@gmail.com. You can drop me a line here.
Thanks. Will drop you a line. BTW. Your translation of SG’s name is correct. That is how Koreans spell his name using Chinese characters.
Just ignore the haters ! So long as you are Seung Gi’s fan, you are my friend !
Thanks Fave. I pity them for they are people who only want to spread the misery inside themselves.
I don’t understand why haters always thumbs down any comment although it was only meaning of the name….jerseygirl0420, i really like your comment about Seung Gi and followed your comments and news about him….^_^ i really adore you and your supportive for Seung Gi….:):)
haters are just confused fans! lol
daebak jerseygirl-nim, would you like to teach me too? 😀
really curious about the asian proto, since i just studied the latin and autronesia proto 😀
thank you so much, i have been confused with that GI/JI letter, since i cant speak chinese, neither korean hehehe 😀
you’re a help!
Don’t mention. Glad to have cleared yr doubts and confusion.
By the way 李(Lee) is his surname. 😛
The Chinese characters for Lee Seung Gi is 李昇基. Note the second character with a sun (日) and rise (升). Its meaning is rising, getting higher (better), elevating. It has similar pronunciations as the word victory but more subtle in meaning. I like it better and credits to his parents for choosing such a well-meaning and pleasant sounding name.
There seems to be some controversy over his Chinese name, but according to Naver Korea, his Chinese characters are:
이승기
李(오얏나무 이) 勝 ( 이길 승 ) 基 ( 터 기 )
Lee (Plum tree) Seung (Victory Seung) Gi (Ground/Foundation Gi)
In Korean news and newspapers, his name is also spelled this way. Anyone else care to shed light on this controversy?

Here is a second source, nate which tryp uses often for her articles:
李(오얏 리)勝(이길 승)基(터 기) 입니다.

I didn’t realize this could become such a big controversy. 😛 I think for the longest time, the fans thought SeungGi’s Chinese name was 李勝基, and it was used by the Chinese fans and press alike. But when SeungGi became more active overseas a few years ago, Hook actually sent out notices that the correct name should be 李昇基. I think this name also appeared in 1N2D (please don’t ask me which episode, because I’m a very bad fan who’s lost track :P).
Thanks tryp for clearing up the controversy. Your input is much appreciated. 🙂
ahahah it’s me, the one who should apologize instead cause making such a controversy here by asking the meaning, i beg a pardon to everyone :D, esp for tryp 😀
In the waterfalls episode of One Night Two Days (aired on 2011_08_14, at 37:15), Seung Gi’s name in Chinese was CGed on the rocks. It’s 李昇基.
Also see here: https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9D%8E%E6%98%87%E5%9F%BA
OK, I found it. It’s in cut #11: https://tryp96.wordpress.com/2011/08/14/11-08-14-1n2d-ep-216-cuts-lee-seung-gi/
And here’s a screencap made by a Chinese fan:
Awesome! Thanks again tryp for clearing up a simple misunderstanding over Seung Gi’s name. It certainly wasn’t worth anyone getting upset over, and I’m glad you were able to step in and mediate. Seung Gi is immortal now that he’s carved in stone. 🙂
I have to correct you because I don’t want people to get the wrong impression that 1N2D actually defaced a famous scenic spot (even with a lovely name!). If you watch the episode cut provided by Tryp you will know his name was CGed on during post-production.
Because LEE SEUNG GI will forever linger in our HEARTS! There will more Umchinah,emperor,etc.. But there’s ONLY 1 Lee Seung Gi!
He is an actor, singer and MC, but I love Lee Seunggi the most!!!
that’s my Lee Seung Gi! he’s so humble and very down to earth…no wonder a lot of persons like him so much… even not members of Airens loves him
i know a person who is very talented…
i know a person who is very well-mannered…
i know a person who is very popular…
wherever he goes, fans screaming, you can hear from afar!
this person, whom i truly admire…
this person we all know his heart’s desire…
this person who always say he’s still lacking…
sometimes unfathomable…what is he saying? 😀
people laugh at me, asking ‘aren’t you ashamed?’
of what? because of me, fangirling? at this age?
of course not! proudly i say to them
he makes me smile and feel young again!
so to all those who wanted him down….
this is your last chance, be good or forever frown…
to this person, airen’s love, will forever be proclaimed
this very special person, Lee Seung Gi… that’s his name! 🙂
Wow, this is an AMAZING poem! My eyes are tearing up just reading this. Thank you for sharing it with us here. 😀
even i couldn’t believe that i came up with this during the wee hours of the morning! that’s what i call LSG magic! 😀 every airen im sure can relate to this. im turning 39 on august, so what! it’s a wonderful feeling….aging backwards! thanks to you too tryp! stay healthy!
Airens please enjoy reading! One Love, One Man, Lee Seung Gi!
I can relate but I’m older than you and am in my 40s and adding another year in few days! It’s my first and only time fangirling (Is there more appropriate term for ahjumma fans? I’m certainly no longer a girl. lol) since birth! Never done this even in my teens! See what Lee SeungGi can do?! I didn’t even buy albums for home or car (my husband does it) until I became a Lee
SeungGi fan! I’m not ashamed either. 🙂
I think senior airen will do! hehehe btw, are you a Filipino?
Yes, I am. I’m in the US right now though. Are you Filipino, too?
oh yes! kababayan! i saw your post that u just had a 20-hour trip from phils to us so i thought u might be the same erika, and u are! 😀

My mom is 51 this year and she is fangirling over Lee Seung Gi! This is what he can do! And I totally relate to the poem! I love the poem very very much! ❤ ❤ ❤
Airens Forever! Fighting! ❤

Oh, it’s such an amazing poem! I can get what you really feel. This special person is loved by all age groups.

uy! hahaha! sakto lang! no, i don’t mind calling me ‘ate’ or unnie, i don’t have any siblings that’s why i enjoy it! ❤
I’m from Malaysia and i want to share stories about Seung Gi came to Malaysia November last year…..truthfully, i don’t know him and always told my friend “who is Seung Gi???” Until my friends told this story when she came to his concert…the truth is he was very humble person and he always cheer up for his fans and learn about the country that he visits…many fans were very satisfied about his performance and only one ‘Seung Gi’ can do the singing, actor and MC very well….then, i watched his drama until latest drama “Gu Family Book” and also his variety show. Now, i know that many Korean’s people were very appriciated him because he very talented person….now, i become one of his fans and i hope that he can create his future very well…Lee Seung Gi, may God bless you and your future….sarangheyo!!!!!

I have watched Shining Inheritance at least 50 times

Seung Gi said his Lee come from Choenju in 1N2D episode Jiri-san course – summer 2010. he said this when he met with a grandma on street at night.
correct me if i am wrong.
I LUV U LEE SEUNG GI
