Chungdo is a tiny island in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, slightly more than 1km in length. There are 85 families (149 people total) living on the island. Its 18 students were invited by CJ Donors Camp to Beksul Cooking Studio in Seoul before the lunar new year. They erupted in cheers when a young man appeared. It was hallyu star Lee Seung Gi. He came as a ‘cooking mentor’ for the students, and made rice-cake soup and kimchi pancake with them. “Don’t hurt your hand. You have to cut carefully.” “If you add the beef leg bone broth too quickly, the hot water can splash and burn your hand, so add it slowly…” Lee Seung Gi’s attentive instructions made the kids’ faces beam with smiles.
After a short while, while sitting around a table, Lee Seung Gi and the kids started talking about ‘dreams’. The kids asked one question after another. “What was your dream when you were a kid?” “Do you like being a singer, or a talent (actor)?” “Please sing a song!” “What was your nickname when you were a kid?” Always wearing a smile, Lee Seung Gi composed himself and answered the questions. He talked about being unable to use cellphone for 3 months before debut and receiving intensive training. “If you want to achieve your dream, you have to live with a bright and positive mindset even if things get hard or irritating.”
A student said, “I want to become a chef bringing happiness with delicious food, just like how SeungGi hyung brings people joy with his music.”

Thanks, tryp for the translation. It is so heartwarming to read about SG as a mentor to those kids. Very inspiring indeed!
Awww….. I like what the student said in the last part…. “I want to become a chef bringing happiness with delicious food, just like how SeungGi hyung brings people joy with his music.” So true…. his music brings joy and always warm our hearts. 🙂 love… love… love
Me too!! I hope that child will achieve his dreams!
It tickles me how boys younger than him refer to Seunggi as ‘Seunggi hyung’, often with a certain kind of awe and respect in their comments 😛
Aww he really inspire lots of people and a good role model for the younger ones 🙂 I love what the kid said in the last part ^^
