17.02.10 SWC Cold Weather Training – Lee Seung Gi

SWC’s cold weather training is outdoor training for 10 days & 9 nights in the coldest place they can find. (s: dclsg)

This was posted by a staff of Korea Topokki Food Truck. They went to Daegwallyeong, Gangwon-do today where it was VERY COLD (the current temperature there is 13°F or -11°C). It was for a special catering event. They served hot and delicious snacks to special forces soldiers who finished a march which was the last part of the SWC Cold Weather Training.

After they arrived, they saw the battalion commander and had a simple greeting & chat with him. They asked him how he knew about their food truck and requested their service. The commander said they just wanted to eat some hot food after the march, and while searching, he heard good things about this food truck from Lee Seung Gi who’s serving in SWC (SeungGi had remembered the food truck from previous fan events at filming sites). The commander thought it was a good idea, and decided to request for this food truck.

“After a while, Lee Seung Gi actor-nim came by to say hello, and it was really so, so nice to see him. ^^* He said, ‘The last time (we met) was at movie Goonghap’s filming site, right?!’ And we exchanged pleasantries. Somehow it felt like meeting a close friend. It also felt somewhat like meeting a Korean in a foreign country.”

Since it was for the special forces, they prepared more than twice as much food as they usually do, and as expected, the soldiers ate an enormous amount of food. Everyone, including the battalion commander, said the food was really delicious and heaped praise on the food truck.

“It’s been a really long time since we last saw Lee Seung Gi actor-nim. He’s still the same person as before, but underneath his gentleness, his special forces’ real manliness can also be felt.”

Even though this can be summed up as “useless suffering”, as from all things in life, you learn and grow from it, and it turns into a valuable experience.

    LSG fighting!

I think the military in all the countries take these kinds of training very seriously. They ‘suffer’ for the protection of the country and its people. Not ‘useless’ at all.

      • Anonymous says:

I’m not doubting nor questioning the seriousness of it, I’m questioning it’s purpose, which it is pointless and useless.

But it can be done with good heart, despite the fact that you’re essentially sacrificing and wasting 2 years of your precious lifetime.

As you said, they learn and grow from it. So, not useless. And so, the 2 years is not wasted.

Are you referring to the 2 years of mandatory military service the Korean men have to go through? Or the training in extreme cold? Both are purposeful.

If you do not know, South Korea is considered to be at war. They may not be actively fighting the North but it’s a cold war and the country has to be be prepared at all times – in the same way Israel has to be prepared. The man up North is a bit of a nutcase and if you have been up to date, u will know that he likes showing off by firing missiles whenever he feels like it. So this 2 years mandatory military service is of utmost importance because the men have to be fighting ready at any time. To say that they will be too old to fight when anything happens is ludicrous because nobody knows when a missile can drop in SK. It could be tomorrow, it could be in 10yrs time, but no one knows. So they have to be prepared.

As for training in extreme cold, have you any idea how cold North Korea can be in winter? The soldiers have to be prepared for any situation and any condition. I’m sure the North Korean soldiers are very hardy and resilient, being used to harsh conditions. Unfortunately, the south Korean soldiers are used to a cushier lifestyle- so yes, this training is purposeful.

          Pls be mindful of
another country’s political situation before you make such comments.

Possibly it’s an exercise to make them accustom to the gruelling conditions so that should the inevitable happen one day, all of them who have undergone mandatory military training will be able to handle whatever serious conditions that come their way.

If Seung Gi and comrades are adapting to the harsh military training, it’s a good exposure and experience for them. I am extremely proud of Seung Gi. He hasn’t only adapted to the harsh training and work, but has also initiated a health aerobics programme. Isn’t that marvellous?

If the inevitable happens one day, they will be too old to anything lol.

      • Crazyahjummafan says:

This is a totally ignorant comment. Do you when a war will break out esp with the crazy despot in the north?

If you do, pls tell the SK government so that they can prepare better.
I personally would like to know too when my country will be at war, cos although my elder son has completed his military service he still has to go for reservist training every year; and next year my younger son has to go for his 2 years of compulsory national service.
And I do not think that it is not purposeful, cos we will be ready. Even my husband had to go, and even though he’s too old to be in combat now, the military training that he went through will help him to protect my family better.

If the inevitable happens one day, unless it happens in a not so distant future, they’ll be too old to do anything lol.

Before joining the military, Seung Gi was already a bit muscular as seen in You’re All Surrounded when he took off his T-shirt in the locker room. Then he had a young man’s body. When Seung Gi comes back, I bet he will be even more muscular and will be having a real man’s body. Even now itself Seung Gi is already a hunk!

I’m so proud of Him. He is a real man what many wish to find regardless of fame or money, without them, being like He is, intelligent, handsome, hard worker, polite, good soul , gorgeous body and shinning smile with that cute dimple, without money and fame but with all the rest of his charms, any woman with blood in their body would love him still. Awww Seung Gi ah , making us all so proud again and again, what a nice and warm feeling..nuestro querido, our loved one, we really, really, really, really like You!

Oh god, here they are giving thumbs down. lol so sensitive and defensive, and I didn’t even say anything wrong or bad! 1 of the reason why I don’t like commenting here.

    • Anonymous says:

If you were Seung Gi, how would you feel if you have gone through tough training and have one of your supposedly ‘fan’ said you have gone through useless suffering. Or have one of your superiors/friends in the military told him ‘hey Seung Gi, your fans said our training is useless.’ There IS a reason why airens are sensitive and defensive. We all know Seung Gi takes his military service very seriously. As fans, we respect him, respect the choices he makes, and respect the military.

And, neither the training nor the purpose is ‘useless’.

    • Crazyahjummafan says:

If you are the same person who commented about the military service being not purposeful, you deserve the thumbs down. If you write silly ignorant comments, you should take responsibility for them and not blame others for being sensitive.
Instead, learn from your mistakes and write responsibly.

Each and everyone of us who post our views in this blog all share a common goal- Lee Seung Gi. Lee Seung Gi is one remarkable guy. Based on what we have read, heard and seen, we know very well that Seung Gi is one person who gives his utmost best in anything he partakes/ participates. This is who Lee Seung Gi is and this is the reason why many of us adore, respect and support him in every way we can.

5 more days to go before Seung Gi and comrades complete their outdoor training for 10 days and 9 nights. I read about this extreme weather training in The Telegraph. It seems that this is an endurance training which also includes hand-to-hand combat. I bet the training besides making Seung Gi and comrades physically and mentally strong, also gives them a chance to know each other better and build good friendships. I wonder if this particular training is a joint military training with the US Marines. A very good exposure for Seung Gi and comrades indeed.
