There’s finally some news on the drama OST:
Joe Lynn Turner, ex-vocalist of Deep Purple, and Korean guitarist Kim Se Hwang recorded a rock ballad song ‘Forever’ on March 21. The song will be included in the OST for Gu Family Secret. It’ll be refreshing to hear an English song with American rock vocal in a sageuk. Turner took on the English lyrics which includes, “Why can’t our hearts beat together? I long for you more earnestly than ever before.” [This is translated back from Korean, so the original lyrics might be something totally different. ] The music was composed by Turner, Kim Se Hwang, and drama musician Kim Dong Hyuk.

Baby KangChi has filmed 4 times so far. The 1st time was at Andeok Valley. The 2nd time was at Choe Champandaek in Hadong. The 3rd time was at a filming set in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do on March 21 (see photos). SeungGi was also in Hwaseong on that day, but he was in his van when baby KangChi was filming, so the baby’s parent didn’t take any pictures of him. The 4th filming also took place in Hwaseong. There were a lot of scenes, so they actually had 4 babies taking turns filming.

Cho Gwan Woong (Lee Sung Jae) who was born the lowest of class and was looked down upon by the people, managed to turn his desperate life around after getting first place in the military scholar exams. Yoon Seo Hwa (Lee Yeon Hee) & the guardian god of Jiri mountains, Gu Wal Ryung fell in love but due to the trap of their enemies, the Yoon family status fell into ruins. While Seo Hwa was on the run with her maid (Kim Bo Mi), she received news that Wal Ryung had disappeared after a mishap. Feeling unable to raise her son while escaping, she sent him down the river in basket hoping that someone could take him in.
Choi Kang Chi who grew up with the Choi family after he was picked up from river, discovered that he is actually a half man half beast when he was going after criminals when his special abilities began to show. There have been lots of articles on the possible casting of Lee Yeon Hee today. Honestly, I’ve never heard of this actress before and I wasn’t too enthusiastic after reading her Wikipedia article. And I’ve been crazily busy at work, so I wasn’t planning to post anything on this except the enewsworld article link. But some of you seem to have lingering questions.
Anyway, I read some of the Korean articles. Her casting is not finalized yet, because some details still need to be ironed out. It’s not explicitly stated in the articles, but I do not think she will be the 2nd female lead! She’s only making a ‘special appearance’, but her role will be ‘essential to the unfolding of the plot’.

These are all rumors, so please take everything with a big grain of salt.
Someone posted on dcmbcdrama that the main story takes place right before the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty. The famous Navy Admiral Lee Soon Shin (or Yi Sun Sin) will be Choi Kang Chi’s mentor. Choi Kang Chi’s biological father (Gu xx) is a gumiho, and doesn’t seem to age at all.
I read on baidu tieba that the 1st female lead is a girl from a prominent family. She and Choi Kang Chi are in love. The 2nd female lead is a martial arts instructor who has a crush on Choi Kang Chi and always protects him.
And according to dangerous870113, filming will start on January 23 in Jejudo and continue there for a month. After that, they’ll also film on location in Gyeongju, Yongin, and Mungyeong.

At one hand, it’s good to have more good actors and actresses on board, but if it’s gonna make people talk bad and compare them to my bias *sigh*, me not liking it..

Honestly, he’s an upcoming moderately talented actor who has been in a few cable dramas and the horrible Lie to Me on the networks and a movie or two. Too bad he seems to have a few overzealous fans who think he’s more talented and has more ajumma fans than Seunggi~ He’s not really an IT boy or that well known in SK or internationally though. His part imo sounds kind of small in the drama? Who knows. Some people can’t read and think he’s going to have a bickering romance with Suzy. I was actually excited for his casting before I read all the nonsense.
I always feel ambivalent about generic websites like the one mentioned above. On the one hand, Seung Gi does gain some exposure to people who probably don’t know him that well normally. Then, unfortunately, with the exposure come non-sensical remarks or unjust criticisms that get me all worked up. From experience, I think I will go by the tried and true ‘the work speaks for itself.’ Remember the uproars about his casting in TK2H? And later the dubious promotion of some other co-actor over him? Up to this date I still read fans’ accounts of how Lee Jae Ha converted them into loyal fans of Lee Seung Gi, whom they’d either ignored or been ignorant about before. Hence the power of a well-acted role and a well-executed drama. I have every confidence that Kang Chi and Gu Family Book will become those.

First of all, there’s no one named Jo Jung Seok cast in Gu Family Book. Were they talking about Sung Joon instead? Sung Joon’s character has a crush on Suzy, not the other way around. And it’s also Sung Joon’s character who will be bickering with Kang Chi, not Suzy’s character. I’m pretty sure I included this in my updates yesterday.
I know of at least one Chinese K-drama site got the translation wrong about that secondary character. By now I am pretty used to the ‘Lee Seung Gi Effect’, i.e., people take advantage of Seung Gi’s work/fame/image/whatever to promote themselves or their stars.

That’s interesting. I wonder how an English song and a rock ballad at that fits a sageuk, but I’m sure I’ll like it. This drama so far has been surprising me continuously ever since the release of Seunggi’s stills. I like the background music they use in the teasers, are they original osts for this drama? because I don’t think I’ve heard it before. Anyway, talking about osts, I’m most eager to hear if our Seunggi will sing one!

In the first trailer, there are two songs used. The first one is “Atlantis” and the second one is “Eternal Sorrow”. I cannot find the music used in the second trailer. And in the third trailer, it’s “Hearts of Courage”. These music are by “Two Steps from Hell”. “Two Steps from Hell is a duo who write original music for movie trailers. I’m just sad with all the comments about our Lee Seung gi in dramabeans, after the official posters are being posted. It totally breaks my heart. And they only see Sung joon for God sake is only a fourth kead. Damn it. I really hate what they said. But at the end of the day, I will be rooting for lsg all the way till the end. Fighting!
Mainly because Sung Joon’s casting was just recently announced. Most people have been talking about Seung Gi and being excited about him for months and months now. Of course, there’s the every-so-often fangirls, but I would bet most people here would also comment like that had Seung Gi been cast as a fourth lead in some movie or drama or whatever. *waits for the lunacy that Seung Gi will never be fourth lead, even if that was NOT the point of contention*
You’d think as much as they supposedly like him they’d bother to recap his latest drama… but they didn’t. Seriously though, it’s like the same people who say the same thing about him every time there is a post about the drama. The funny thing is nobody in Korea gives a crap he’s in the drama. The draw is SG and Suzy to a lesser extent so I wouldn’t take it that seriously.

I love Lee Seung Gi.. Knowing him from TK2H.. cos I love Secret garden and love Ha Ji won.. so I watched TK2H for Ha Ji Won.. Little did i know that I found another idol here.. Love Lee Seung Gi.. he can sing very well.. can talk well.. and can act well.. Love to see him sing Love is Crying, OST for TK2H..
